2007 Kawasaki KLR650
Please find attached the image of the recently removed Avon Distanzia tires from my 2007 Kawasaki KLR650.
Nothing unusual about the tires , well worn, a few minor cuts.
But 17,000 miles from Seattle, Washington to the Panama Canal and back plus about 2,000 miles of local riding in this area…..and no punctures.
To say I’m pleased would be an understatement and most fellow riders are in disbelief at the mileage….
I purchased the bike for the trip. We had no prior experience with dual sport tires and were bewildered with the choices and what to buy. I had used Avon’s in my youth so I was familiar with the brand. I’d have to say though that reading about Ted Simon using them on his second round the world tour is what finally influenced me to the choice.
This winter we are riding the same bike one way to Ushuaia, Argentina. We have fitted the same tires again. We’ll let you know how we do.
Kind regards

I bought a set of Distanzia tires for my street tracker and have been amazed! They stick like glue even in gravel corners! I have 3400 miles on them and the rear is going to go 7000 and the front around 12000! Liked them so much I bought a 2nd pair for my SR500 Streetracker. Great tires! Great company!

I wasn’t kidding when I said how happy I was with my Distanzias. These tires have a great feel on pavement wet or dry, and aggressive grooving for improved gravel roads. Plus the depth of the tread is most excellent, making for a long service life. Keep these tires inflated correctly and balanced properly and you’ll get a boatload of miles from a set. Plus the obvious wear indicators make it simple to see when you’ve finally worn out a set. Bravo Avon!! Great job! Whitehorse Gear MSF rider Coach

The Avon Distanzia’s were a great addition to the WR for rougher corning and straight line stability on the concrete or asphalt plus added an off-road confidence the OEM on-road only BT90’s will never have.

“From Siberia to Africa where Gripsters got me across some of the toughest terrain on the planet, to Mexico where my Distanzias absorb the varying conditions of Mexican roads littered with thousands of annoying potholes and speed-bumps, I always depend on Avon for safety and durability.”
May 11, 2011 Update:
On extended motorcycle journeys, riders contend with snow or rain on asphalt one day and the next, heavily potholed roads, slick wet clay, or soft sand, a welcome match for Distanzias. There is seldom opportunity to change tires for every extreme, but Avon represents the best of dual-sport tires for nearly every situation imaginable. Widely recognized as the toughest motorcycle tire on the market, when the first storm hits and the surface below becomes unpredictable, you’ll quickly understand and appreciate why the only tires that I use are built by Avon! After I ate up the stock tires on my new dual sport, I slapped some Avon Distanzia tires on and realized what I had been missing out on. Everything!

My bike’s “City Tard” function raises the hair on the back of my neck. Beauty of the beast is its incredible versatility. When my buddies ride their Big Bikes on serious log trails out come the Distanzias. I play around them like dolphins amongst whales. Once I help hoist their behemoths over/through obstacles like log/creek crossings jaws drop as I blast, bounce or jump what took them considerable effort to get by. They all query, “How can those tyres hook up and ride like you are running knobs?” Right bike, right tyres equal more fun/ admiration than I really deserve!

Dr. Gregory W. Frazier, Professional Motorcycle Adventurer: I use two types of Avon Tyres, the Gripster AM 24’s and the Distanzia AM43/44. However, when I was in Germany, about to start my ride across the eight times zones of Russia, I wanted a tyre that would get me over that distance that would do well on the high speed autobahns and the gravel through Siberia. Not only did the Distanzia do those tough miles, but once I got to the USA they knocked down Interstates from Los Angeles to Mexico, then a mix of roads to my home in Montana.

Posted with permission from Motorcycle Consumer News -March 2008 issue. The DR’s stock tires wear very rapidly when used on-road. The rear was toast in less than 2500 miles. Avon’s Distanzias have treads that give surprisingly good off-road traction with long wear on pavement.

Reprinted with permission from Motorcycle Consumer News March 2008 DR650SE R&D Phase 1 The DR650SE’s stock Bridgestone tires wear very rapidly when used on road. The stock rear tire was toast in less than 2500 miles. Avon’s Distanzia tires seem to split the difference between being durable on the road and having decent traction on the trail. We chose a slightly larger 130/80-17 rear to replace the stock 120/90-17. Avon’s Distanzias have treads that give surprisingly good off-road traction with long wear on pavement (recommended by Dr. G!).

I am extremely happy with the performance of these tires and plan to continue using them. Other motorcyclists I have met have remarked on my tires and I certainly praise them as dependable rubber thats going to stick to the road.
